On this episode, we dig into the work of the Minneapolis-based record label, Bumpy. Started in 2018 by Adam Werven, Bumpy has served as an outlet for Werven’s various musical projects, most notably for his work under the alias Larry Wish, and has branched out to include material from other artists in the Twin Cities underground music scene and beyond. The focus of the label has leaned towards various strains of oddball pop and rock, but some of the more recent Bumpy releases have gotten into other areas of minimalism and experimental music.

This past week, I had a chance to speak with Adam, and we discussed the beginnings of Larry Wish, the significance of live performance, the making of his most recent album “The Mind is the Builder”, the motivation for starting Bumpy, and the different inspirations that keep him moving forward with the label and his music. You’ll hear that interview in three different segments throughout the show, along with track selections from several of the releases from the Bumpy catalog.
