On this episode, I was joined in the studio by Minneapolis-based musician and songwriter Doug Busson, the driving force behind the prolific Yuasa-Exide project. Started as a creative outlet while Busson was bedridden and recovering from a spinal injury, Yuasa-Exide has since moved beyond his basement 4-track setup and become a proper live band with a revolving cast of his friends and family contributing to the project. Busson continues to write and record at a feverish clip. Tumble Mat Tapes just issued the first Yuasa-Exide LP, Warm Up the Citizens Band – A Blip History Of, a concise primer and excellent entry point into the over 25 releases Busson has put out over the past 5 years. The coming weeks and months will also bring the release of a new double-length album called Indifferent to the Physical World and a new double EP release called Half Baked and Faded. Yuasa-Exide will also be heading out on a short Midwest tour with Visual Learner from November 5-9.
During this episode, you’ll hear Doug and me discuss the evolution of Yuasa-Exide and all of the current releases and upcoming plans in the works. We also get into some of the other bands and projects Doug was involved in before Yuasa-Exide, along with his current role as vocalist in the hardcore punk band Laugh Track. Except for the Yuasa-Exide tracks, Doug selected all the other music you hear played and discussed during the show. Hope you enjoy this episode. Feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or questions. As always, thanks for looking and listening.
