FFFoxy Podcast #190: Will Guthrie feature

On this installment of the podcast, I explore the multifaceted musical output of Will Guthrie, an Australian drummer, percussionist, and electro-acoustic sound artist that now resides in France. Guthrie cut his teeth as a young drummer in the Australian jazz and improv scene in the late 1990s and has since gone on to record upwards of 50 albums, both as a soloist and in collaboration with such notable artists as Oren Ambarchi, Mark Fell, and Jérôme Noetinger to name a few. This year alone has seen the release of three new standout albums from Guthrie:  Part II of his acclaimed People Pleaser release, his collaborative release called Real Real World with fellow Australian experimental artist James Rushford, and his other duo release Electric Rag with long-time collaborator Jean-Luc Guionnet. This past week, I interviewed Will via video chat and was able to find out more about his musical background in Australia, his latest recordings, his work with Ensemble Nist Nah, his upcoming tour plans, and other topics related to his creative work. Throughout the show, you’ll get to hear this interview over a few different segments. Between those, you’ll also get a chance to hear various selections from Will’s solo and collaborative recordings, focusing heavily on his more recent releases. I hope you enjoy this episode. Feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or questions. As always, thanks for looking and listening.
