FFFoxy Podcast #179: Matt Sowell in-studio session

On this installment of the podcast, I was fortunate to have an actual in-studio guest back on the show, which it has been quite some time since I’ve been able to do that. With the proper social distancing measures in place, I was joined at the KMSU studios by the Minneapolis guitarist, Matt Sowell. Matt is a Philadelphia transplant that’s been living here in Minnesota for the past seven years. His acoustic playing style is steeped in the folk-blues or the American Primitive tradition, incorporating both fingerpicking and slide work. He released his first proper LP this past year called Organize Or Die on Feeding Tube Records, which highlights both his guitar playing and compositional chops. In the first hour of the show, Matt performed a short live set for us and then hung out to answer some questions about his background, his new album, and the benefit compilation called Out Of The Ashes that he had a major role in putting together last year. In the second half of the show, I focused on some new releases that I’ve been really enjoying of late. I hope you enjoy this episode. Feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or questions. As always, thanks for looking and listening.
