FFFoxy Podcast #260: Dandy Boy Records feature

On this episode, we dig into the work of the Oakland-based label, Dandy Boy Records. Started by Bobby Martinez initially as an outlet for his own bands’ music, Dandy Boy began to expand its scope and pick up momentum in the wake of the COVID lockdown period with Martinez releasing a lot of the exciting music his friends mostly in the Bay Area were making. This year alone, Dandy Boy will be issuing over a dozen different titles – from 7” singles to full-length LPs – that showcase different takes on hook-filled indie pop and rock music.

I had a chance to speak with Martinez this past week and we discussed the beginnings of Dandy Boy, the Oakland music scene, the role of DIY labels, the releases coming out on the label this year, the bands that he is involved in, and much more. You’ll hear that interview in three different segments throughout the show, and you’ll also hear tracks from numerous releases from the Dandy Boy catalog, including a bunch of new and forthcoming stuff. I hope you enjoy this episode. Feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or questions. As always, thanks for looking and listening.
