It was a busy and exciting month for us here on Free Form Freakout. Carl had a great turnout for Record Store Day at his shop, Tune Town, and experienced his most profitable day in his store’s history. KMSU, the station where FFF emanates from, stared down its largest pledge drive goal in its history…
Starting on Wednesday, April 23rd, KMSU – the college/community radio station where Free Form Freakout is based out of – will be embarking on its most ambitious pledge drive fundraiser in the station’s long history with the goal of raising $40,000. The rationale for this amount is plain and simple: we desperately need to replace…
Lots of great new music to sift through on this episode of the FFFoxy Podcast. We’ve been especially loving the latest offerings from the Fabrica, Kye, and Constellation Tatsu labels of late. In particular, the Rodman Melchoir/Melchoir Rodman tape on Fabrica has been given ample spins in the FFF bunker. It features a remarkable arrangement of sounds…
David broke out the boombox to play a stack of newer tapes, along with some older gems, on show #404 when he was flying solo. Carl returned for the following shows where he played some of the music that his grandfather, who sadly passed away the week before, had left behind for him. We’ll have…
On this episode of the FFFoxy Podcast we focused in on the work of Scissor Tail Editions out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a label that deals in mostly experimental, drone, and folk sounds and that has released music by some favorites of ours here on the show, including Nathan McLaughlin and Josh Mason. In addition to playing…
Imminent Frequencies, the Brooklyn-based imprint, currently has all of their tapes on sale for 25% off, so now is a perfect time to grab their most recent batch of superb tapes that they snuck out at the tail end of last year. Among the lot is Tonal Fragments, the latest from Imminent Frequencies head honcho Ryan…
Here’s how things went down on the Thursday show over the past three weeks. David was on his own for episodes #401 & #402, and on this week’s show we were joined in the studio by Chad, a longtime KMSU supporter and honorary member of the Jandek Study Group. Included below are some audio and…
On this episode of the FFFoxy Podcast, we were thrilled to be able to share a bunch of wild sounds from artists and labels both new and old to us. We’ve been especially loving the latest full-lengths from Anne Guthrie (whom we mistakenly refer to as Mary for some odd reason during the show, sorry!!)…
Good Area’s debut LP on Kye Records, French Antarctica, was one of the few albums from last year that had us completely baffled; yet it somehow left us utterly intrigued and wanting to hear more. This Philadelphia-based duo used an open mic, room sound approach to capture their homespun jam sessions that found them exchanging…
Aside from the usual weather-related grumblings, February has been a rather fun-filled month for us here at Free Form Freakout: we celebrated our 9th year of doing the weekly Thursday show, we put together what we hoped would be an all-inclusive Valentine’s Day-themed show, and we found in Blank Realm’s Grassed Inn an album we…
