April has arrived and there are some great things happening locally this month that have us pretty exited. Next weekend, on April 15th & 16th, the 10th annual Post-Holiday Extravaganza is taking place in Mankato. This event, headed up by the non-profit group Midwest Art Catalyst, includes an art raffle, silent auction, bake sale, beer, and plenty of live music with money being raised for several worthy, local arts and music programs. Saturday is capped off with a solid line-up of live music at The What’s Up Lounge with performances by The Blind Shake, BNLX, Kid Dakota, and Bee Balm Fields. You might even find half of FFF spinning records in public at some point during the weekend’s festivities. More details can be found HERE and HERE and HERE. On Friday, April 21st, Free Form Freakout is presenting “An Evening of Experimental & Improvised Sound” at the Arts Center of St. Peter. We’re beyond thrilled to have Graham Lambkin making his first solo performance in Minnesota this night. If you’ve listened to our podcast show over the years, you’ll know that Lambkin is an artist whose work we have a great deal of respect and admiration for, so it is a huge honor to have him making the trip to play here in our own backyard. Joining him on the bill this evening are three other (mostly) MN-based performers that we are equally excited about: veteran modified guitar & banjo improvisor Paul Metzger, modular synth builder and electronic composer Justin Meyers, and the Mankato-born tape-collage duo Maths Balance Volumes. It’s sure to be a exhilarating evening uncommon sounds and more details can be found HERE. The following day, April 22nd, Carl will be busy at Tune Town offering up exclusive vinyl, bargain bin deals, plenty of freebies, and more live music as part of the annual Record Store Day event. Regardless of whether you’re into collecting vinyl or not, this event seems to draw all of the areas’s music fans out of the woodwork and is simply just good fun. More details can be found HERE. This post’s photo is brought to you again by Cody Yantis from his series of photos taken around downtown Denver using expired, infrared film. Thanks
