FFFoxy Podcast #94: The Helen Scarsdale Agency feature

1502_resound_sq-001

On this installment of the FFFoxy Podcast show I delve into the world of The Helen Scarsdale Agency, the superbly curated label run by sound artist Jim Haynes since 2003. The label’s stellar catalog features artists from around the world working with unique approaches to sound art, drone, and otherwise experimental composition, including Omit, Robert Millis, BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa, Matt Waldron’s Irr. App. (Ext.) project, Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson and Haynes himself. In addition to his own sound work and running The Helen Scarsdale Agency, Haynes has also been involved in the shadowy corners of the experimental music world in other various roles over the years: as a music writer for such publications as The Wire and The Sound Projector, as a long time employee at Aquarius Records, now Stranded Records, in San Francisco, and as a director and event organizer at the non-profit 23Five Incorporated. Basically, Haynes has been involved in this area of fringe music on virtually every level, so I was thrilled to get a chance to speak with him recently about some of these activities. On top of hearing that conversation with Haynes, you’ll also hear some selections from throughout The Helen Scarsdale Agency catalog during the show, which if time wasn’t a factor, I would have included far more of. I encourage you to follow the links to explore this label further. Hope you enjoy this new episode, though. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments. As always, thanks for looking and listening.
